Widebody 1969 Porsche 911S Race Car for sale
This 1969 Porsche 911S (chassis 119300614) was built for SCCA racing in 1979 by the previous owner who drove it for ten years. According to the two included logbooks, the car racked up 31 regional and three championship wins out of sixty total races entered. It’s also had some recent sorting and sounds like an excellent racing starter kit.
Utilizing a steel monocoque with integrated roll cage, the car was built with a weight goal of 1,900 pounds. Bodywork is mostly fiberglass including the hood, ducktailed decklid and flared fenders and air dam, while windows are Lexan. As per the description, serviceability was also a concern and rear fenders can be unbolted for suspension access.
Although the seller has owned the car for the past twenty years, it doesn’t sound like it’s seen much use in that time. Full engine specs aren’t listed, but the motor was gone through by an air-cooled specialist earlier this year. The ad lists the engine as a 2.0 ;iter magnesium block and the transaxle as a 901 5-speed with a limited slip diff. Also included are extra gear ratios that the seller says can be changed from inside the car, thanks to some innovative thinking and chassis modification. Koni shocks are used front and rear and mounting points are said to be heavily modified and reinforced.
Also included are three-plus sets of spare wheels with cooling disks, all in addition to the replica Fuchs pictured on the car–“shaved” Hoosiers on the Fuchs are also claimed to be new. Even if the extra wheels weren’t ever fitted to the car, they’d make for good garage art. Further extras listed include a new front bumper and rear fenders, log books, photos and race/mechanical specs. Available at extra cost are a spare 2.0 liter/901 drivetrain combo, both of which will need sorting.
The car’s front weight balance is 49% thanks to a packed front compartment and extra weight added underneath. Both the fire suppression and fuel tanks will need to be replaced for future competition, while wiring and hoses under the hood should probably be refreshed as well–one braided hose in back appears to be duct taped. Little else is said about safety equipment being up to date beside mentions of a new harness, wheel, and seat cover.
Though a bit rough around the edges, that’s exactly how we like our old racers anyway. Hopefully this one doesn’t need too much TLC, and with the ad seemingly flying pretty low under the radar, it could be sold for close to the initial asking price.
