Why the New Volvo VNR Might Be the Best Regional Truck Yet
Volvo Trucks has just dropped its newest innovation in regional haul trucking, and it is called the all-new Volvo VNR. This truck is not just a facelift—it is a full-on reimagining of what a modern-day workhorse should be. Whether you are moving cargo in tight city streets or running longer regional routes, this truck has been built to handle the challenge with more power, comfort, and safety than ever before.
There are five configurations available in the new VNR lineup. First, there is the VNR 300, a nimble day cab made for those quick-turn urban deliveries. Next is the VNR 440, which comes with a mid-roof sleeper, making it perfect for short hauls that still require some rest time. Then there is the VNR 640, a mid-roof sleeper that offers even more space, aimed at bulk haulers and tanker drivers. The VNR 660 steps it up with a high-roof sleeper and 62 inches of living space inside. Lastly, the VNR Straight Truck gives you the flexibility to upfit it with a flatbed, box van, or whatever your job demands.
Volvo put fuel efficiency front and center. Compared to the previous model, this new VNR gives you up to 7.5 percent better fuel economy. That is thanks to better aerodynamics, a more refined powertrain with the latest D13 engine, and the I-Shift automated manual transmission. You also get idle reduction technology that helps cut down on wasted fuel when you are parked and waiting.
Safety is another huge highlight. This truck is packed with smart systems like Volvo Active Driver Assist, which includes features such as forward collision warning, lane departure alerts, adaptive cruise control, and emergency braking. Plus, it now has pedestrian detection and an E-Call system that notifies emergency responders if the truck senses a crash or airbag deployment. These are the kinds of things that make a real difference when you are behind the wheel for hours on end.
Inside the cab, Volvo focused on making the driver’s experience more enjoyable. You will find a wraparound dashboard with easy-to-reach controls, a steering wheel with integrated functions, and lots of storage for gear and personal items. The sleeper models include blackout curtains and one of the largest mattresses in the industry, so drivers can actually get some solid rest between jobs.
All of this is being built right here in the United States at Volvo’s New River Valley Plant in Virginia, with deliveries starting soon.
