Red Bull RB17 Hypercar With 1200 Horsepower and 15000 RPM

Red Bull RB17 Hypercar With 1200 Horsepower and 15000 RPM

After years of anticipation, Red Bull has finally introduced its first-ever customer track car, the RB17, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This two-seater, mid-engine hypercar delivers an astonishing 1,200 horsepower, thanks to its electrically assisted 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine, which can rev up to an incredible 15,000 revolutions per minute. With a weight under 1,984 pounds, Red Bull claims the RB17 offers Formula 1 car levels of track performance.

The RB17 achieves this remarkable weight through a carbon fiber two-seater monocoque that utilizes the engine as a stressed member of the chassis. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox and a hydraulically locking active limited-slip differential. Notably, the car lacks a reverse gear; instead, the electric motor within the drivetrain handles backward movement.

The electric motor alone contributes 200 horsepower of the total 1,200 horsepower, with the V-10 engine providing the remaining 1,000 horsepower. To manage this immense power, the RB17 comes with standard traction control and anti-lock brakes to prevent wheel lockup during intense braking. The top speed exceeds 217 miles per hour.

Designed by Red Bull engineering mastermind Adrian Newey, the RB17 features impressive aerodynamics, generating up to 3,747 pounds of downforce, nearly double its weight. The car includes wheel wake management systems and active front and rear wings to optimize downforce for various driving conditions.

The RB17’s motorsport-inspired internals include adjustable pushrod suspension with active height and roll control, a lift mode for low-speed obstacles, hydraulically assisted power steering, and carbon brakes on all four corners. Unique to this car, only the rear brakes are managed via a brake-by-wire system.

The RB17 is equipped with 18-inch carbon fiber wheels fitted with Michelin racing slicks, with an optional 20-inch wheel wrapped in high-performance treaded tires. Red Bull has designed the RB17 for frequent use, offering custom seat options, an adjustable pedal box, and built-in storage for race suits and helmets. The car runs on pump gasoline and comes with a two-year or 4,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.

Red Bull plans to host private events for RB17 owners, including track days and exclusive social gatherings. Adrian Newey expressed his excitement about the project, emphasizing the RB17’s blend of power, speed, and beauty, designed for the enjoyment of driving at Formula 1 speeds with a friend. All 50 units of the RB17 have already been sold, with production set to begin next year.
