Making Of 2017 Honda Civic Type R – Video
Finally, it’s official: Honda confirmed Friday it will bring the Civic Type R to the Geneva Motor Show next month in production trim. The Swiss show was widely expected to be the site of the finished car’s unveiling after its debut as a concept last fall in Paris.
The Type R, which will be the first to wear that badge in the United States, will run Honda’s newest 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged engine. It goes into production this summer at a facility in the United Kingdom for export to Europe, Japan, and other global markets.
The hot hatch stunned the Paris crowd with its massive hood scoop, flared fenders, wild creases, and imposing rear wing. We expect it to produce more than 300 horsepower. The car shown above is the prototype from last year; images of the production model were not released.
Further specs were not revealed, but Honda bragged that the Type R “has been engineered to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot hatch segment.”
