BYD’s Denza N9 Launches with Unexpected Price and Surprising Specs

BYD’s Denza N9 Launches with Unexpected Price and Surprising Specs

Denza, the premium division of BYD, has just revealed its latest flagship hybrid sport utility vehicle, the N9, at a launch event in Shenzhen. This new entry into the luxury SUV segment comes in two versions, priced at 389,800 yuan (approximately 53,770 United States dollars) and 449,800 yuan respectively—surprisingly lower than the previously announced pre-sale estimates of 450,000 to 550,000 yuan.

The N9 is built on BYD’s innovative e3 platform, which brings high-performance capabilities while remaining a slightly scaled-down version of their top-tier e4 architecture. It features three independently controlled electric motors and rear-wheel steering, allowing this large SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.9 seconds.

Under the hood, the N9 combines a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine generating 152 kilowatts with motors that together produce a massive 680 kilowatts. It is equipped with a 47 kilowatt-hour battery pack offering a pure electric range of 200 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. With both the fuel tank and battery at full capacity, the vehicle offers an impressive total range of over 1,300 kilometers.

To handle road conditions with comfort and control, the N9 uses the DiSus-A air suspension system, which is part of BYD’s advanced chassis tech for high-end models. For autonomous features, it comes with BYD’s “God’s Eye B” smart driving suite, including Navigate on Autopilot for both city and highway driving, automatic parking, and valet functions. The hardware setup includes one LiDAR, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 12 high-resolution cameras.

Denza has been expanding quickly, with recent deliveries including the N7 SUV and the D9 multi-purpose vehicle. In February alone, the brand delivered 8,513 vehicles, marking an 85.15 percent increase from the same month last year.
