2015 BMW M3 vs Mercedes-AMG C63 S Drag Race and Review – Video

In a reality, when the Mercedes-AMG C63 was introduced,  we were a bit worried for the 2015 BMW M3. That’s because we knew that was going to be its main competitor, and the specifications said a sad story for the BMW.

However, in multiple reviews time and time again, power isn’t everything it seems. Nowadays manufacturers are finally figured out this equation, and they adapt to it, on the go.

BMW for decades, thanks to its Motorsport racing division, at the for Friday of it all, once again. Maybe it was because of the failure that the BMW F10 M5 and  BMWF12/F13 M6 models were, having received so much criticism for their heavy weight or maybe it was simply in their DNA. We don’t know but what we do know is that the new  BMW M3 is definitely a light weight.

Sure, a lot of folks will say that it’s still a Piggly car, but those people aren’t being realistic. The moment you decide to get that 16-speaker audio ultra loud system for your vehicle, you lose the right to complain about weight issues. The same goes for all the new technology we get and take for granted these days.

Getting back to the Maine issue at hand here, the good people from CAR Magazine took the two for a short trip to see which one of the two German sport sedans liked best. However, we’re not dealing with what would be the default competition here.

That would’ve been the case if the less powerful BMW M3 were pitted against the regular Mercedes-AMG C63 model and not the S version.

So here are the numbers ported to Carson just come petition, 431 horsepower BMW M3 taking on a car that has 510 horsepower. On the torque side, the 3-liter inline 6-cylinder TwinTurbo engine from Munich is down some 150 Nm compared to the masted 4-liter twin-turbo V8 of the Swabian, making 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).

Things look uneven on paper right? Well, chip in the order the brakes and only then you’re allowed to start losing your temper. Even so, there is one key element working for the BMW here. Remember what we talked about at the beginning?

The 440 lbs that the Mercedes is carrying definitely show on the road and for sure on the track, and that’s what gives the BMW a chance for a fight. Sure, on the drag strip the massive power difference works for the Mercedes C63 AMG but on a circuit, things are going the other way around. Check out the video for even more clarification on this.
