To be a contender in the full-size truck segment, Nissan has to do a lot of things right with the Titan. It has to be powerful, and yet it has to be fuel-efficient. It has to offer robust ride control, and yet it also has to handle well. There can be no trade-offs, and it must hit every checkbox on the shopping list. That’s a tall order, and yet the 2017 Nissan Titan manages to hit the sweet spot.

The 2017 Nissan Titan adds a half-ton pickup to its family of trucks, which launched last year with the brawnier Titan XD. However, the Titan isn’t a scaled down version of the XD—they may look the same from a styling standpoint, but the manufacturer says similarities end there. There isn’t a single bolt is common between the XD and the half-ton model when it comes to chassis, frame, suspension, steering system. After all, they’re vehicles with different capabilities and different capacities.
