Stuttgart/Berlin. ‘smart ready to drop’ is an innovative service that will make online shopping much easier in future. In cooperation with DHL Paket and online retailers such as Amazon, Allyouneed fresh and Fashion ID smart will enable parcels to be delivered to the boot of your car. Those interested can apply to participate in the testing of the new logistics service at www.smart.com/drop.

In his speech at the International Consumer Electronics Fair (ifa) in Berlin today Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said: “We are working intensively on the question of how cars can help make people’s lives easier. If the car receives parcels customers have more time to do things they really enjoy.”

The ‘smart ready to drop’ beta test will start in the autumn in Stuttgart, followed by Cologne, Bonn and Berlin a few months later. The service will eventually be offered in seven German cities. Dieter Zetsche says: “We are now launching this service in Germany together with DHL as a strong partner. In the pilot project our customers can have orders from popular online shops such as Amazon, Allyouneed fresh and Fashion ID (the Peek & Cloppenburg online shop) delivered directly to the luggage compartment of their smart.”

‘smart ready to drop’ expands the car’s spectrum of use in cities in particular and offers a mobility concept that goes beyond driving. The beta test is the biggest in-car delivery test ever performed in Germany. The smart cars taking part in the beta test will be retrofitted with the required Connectivity Box at the dealership. From the autumn, the exclusive smart fortwo ready to edition will come equipped with the Connectivity Box.
