Wimmer wanted to prove there is room for improvement and actually managed to almost double the engine’s output, now standing at a fantastic 420 hp (309 kW). This makes it 20 hp stronger than the VW Golf R400 concept which by the way we are still patiently waiting to see in production guise.
To extract so much power from the four-banger, the German tuners upgraded the turbocharger, modified the high-pressure pump, and installed a custom stainless steel sports exhaust system. The intercooler has also gone through some changes and the engine’s ECU has been remapped. Thanks to all of these optimizations, the 2.0-liter now generates a torquetastic 354 lb-ft (480 newton meters), up from the series 258 lb-ft (349 Nm).
