133,151 bhp Bloodhound SSC will try to hit 1000mph – Video
The land speed breaking Bloodhound SSC has made its official debut in final form ahead of a 1,000 mph attempt set for sometime in 2017.
It will be seen running for the first time next Easter in Newquay, UK where it will embark on a 200 mph (322 km/h) initial test which will be followed in August by a second, more important run at the South African desert where it will attempt to take down the current already fast time of 763 mph (1,228 km/h) land speed record.
Based on the information received during these two tests, the team involved in the Bloodhound Project will make the necessary tweaks ahead of 2017 when the monster SSC will try and hit the magical 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h) mark.
The land speed breaking vehicle is 13.5 meters long and is primarily powered by a Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine taken from the Eurofighter Typhoon. It’s enough to enable the Bloodhound SSC hit about 650 mph (1,046 km/h) and when this happens the hybrid rocket kicks in to further boost velocity.

That insane hybrid rocket works with a 550 horsepower supercharged V8 5.0-liter from Jaguar which is in charge of providing up to 40 liters of propellant per second for the hybrid rocket. Add the three power sources and you get a whopping combined output of 133,151 bhp (99,291 kW) which they believe will be enough for a 0-1,000 mph run in 55 seconds and a little over two minutes for the entire run if we take into account deceleration.
Driving this amazing machine will be none other than Andy Green who is actually the current land speed record holder after hitting 763 mph back in 1997 with the Thrust SSC.
