VW At LA Auto Show – Video
After introducing the updated version of the Golf just last week, Volkswagen brought the electric version of the new hatchback to Los Angeles. The 2017 e-Golf is a very subtle refresh inside and out, like its gas-powered siblings, but it does feature some notable mechanical upgrades.
The most important change is in the battery. A new 35.8 kWh unit gives this e-Golf an improved range of 124 miles, as opposed to the former model’s 83-mile range. Volkswagen also offers a DC fast charging system as an option on the base SE model, and a standard feature on the SEL Premium model. This allows the e-Golf to get an 80 percent charge in an hour at a DC fast charger.
The Atlas is a key part of Volkswagen’s bid to rebound from the emissions-cheating scandal that badly tarnished VW’s reputation, sent its U.S. sales tumbling and forced Volkswagen to reach a $14.7-billion settlement last month to compensate customers and satisfy regulators.
