Toyota S-FR Racing Concept pocket rocket

The Toyota S-FR Racing Concept has an overall length of 4,100 mm that makes it a little bit longer than the regular concept (3,990 mm). Width has increased from 1,695 mm to 1,735, while height is down from 1,320 mm to 1,270 mm. It carries over the 2,480-mm wheelbase, and we assume it’s substantially lighter than its road-legal sibling that is rumored to tip the scales at just 980 kg (2,160 lbs).

 

Just like with the standard S-FR concept, Toyota isn’t saying a word about what powers the racing version. It is believed the S-FR production model set to arrive next year will employ a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline motor sourced from the Euro-spec Auris where it develops 115 PS (85 kW) and 185 Nm (136 lb-ft). However, the engineers could work a bit on the engine to squeeze more power to make it suitable for a sportscar.

 

 

There are also some reports pointing towards a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter from the JDM-spec Corolla, but with direct injection and other tweaks to boost output to around 130 PS (96 kW) and 148 Nm (109 lb-ft).

Both rumors could turn out to be true as the Toyota S-FR will be sold in many markets, including United States where it will likely be badged as a Scion. The motors are expected to work with a six-speed manual and a CVT.
