The All New 2017 Mazda MX 5 RF Commercial – Video
According to Mazda UK, the MX-5 RF will go on sale in March 2017. At first, 500 units of the Launch Edition will have to do for the British public, each priced from £28,995. At that sort of money, however, the MX-5 RF Launch Edition comes with all the bells and whistles one can wish for in this type of vehicle. The “regular version,” if you can call it that, will start from £22,195, which is a startling £3,700 more than the ragtop variant.
Customers can make a choice between 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv-G powerplants. The lesser engine is good for 131 PS (129 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 150 Nm (203 lb-ft) at 4,800 rpm. In the bigger mill’s case, we’re looking at 160 PS (158 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm (271 lb-ft) at 4,600 rpm. Only the 2.0-liter MX RF comes with a limited slip differential, which is a must in this type of car. For those who would rather not shift gears manually, the £27,095 Sport Nav Auto introduces a 6-speed automatic transmission to the MX-5 range in the United Kingdom.
“With the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF we freed ourselves from traditional ways of thinking and took on fresh challenges in order to create something new. Our aim was a convertible sports car with gorgeous fastback lines when the roof is closed and an exhilarating open-air feeling when open,” explains Nobuhiro Yamamoto, the program manager for the Mazda MX-5.
