Google Street View Car vandalized with tomatoes in Spain
La Tomatina is an annual celebration held in Spain and it’s literally just a big tomato throwing and smashing free for all mega fight. This year, though, a poor little Google Street View vehicle was caught in the middle and severely damaged by the 30,000 or so tomato covered humans.
Apparently, it was there in the first place in Buñol to capture before and after photos of the event. But things got out of hand has expected and the happy tomato tossing participants seems to have turned a bit distruvtive, at least towards the vehicle.
Its exterior body panels were dented and the all-important roof-mounted Google camera sustained significant damage too – all glass apparently survived intact.
Google had officially stated its intention to record the entire festival, in an effort to “capture the magic and color that flooded the streets of Buñol during this festival.”
The photos would have been processed and uploaded in a few weeks’ time, but now that plan has been changed by the nearly 150 tons of red tomatoes used in this year’s edition of the festival which traces its inception some six decades in the past.
