While unveiling its global brand ‘NIO’, electric car company NextEV also went ahead and launched their record-setting EP9 supercar, a 1,341 horsepower electric vehicle that posted a blistering time of 7m 05,12 seconds on the Nurburgring.
The new Nordschleife EV lap record was achieved on October 12th, after which the EP9 went on to smash the EV record at Circuit Paul Ricard in France by posting a time of 1m 52.78s.
“Today we launched our electric supercar that broke the record at the Nordschleife,” said NextEV founder & chairman William Li. “The NIO EP9 was born to push limits and is the first stage of automotive production for NIO. It is a statement of our vision and technical and manufacturing capabilities. It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles.”
The EP9 features four high-performance inboard motors and four individual gearboxes, delivering a total of 1-MegaWatt of power, equivalent to 1,341 HP. Its 777 V full electric powertrain also produces an instant peak torque of 1,480 Nm (1,091 lb-ft) at the motor and a whooping 6,334 Nm (4,671 lb-ft) at the wheels from 0 to 7,500 rpm.
On paper, the EP9 can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.7 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.1 seconds and eventually max out at 313 km/h (194 mph). In terms of charging, it can be good to go in as little as 45 minutes and has a range of 427 km (265 miles). Other figures released by the Chinese EV-maker include the EP9’s 0-300 km/h (186 mph) sprint time, which is 15.9 seconds, but also its 1/4 mile time of 10.1 seconds at 249 km/h (152 mph).
