Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 991 GT3 Le Mans Road Trip – Video
The Supercars we’re guiding across northern France to the 2015 historic race – the Porsche 991 GT3 and Ferrari 458 Speciale – rank amongst the ultimate road-going versions to benefit from such race-bred technology.
The PDK transmission in the Porsche GT3, for example, can trace its bloodline back to the PDK gearbox that appeared on a Porsche 962 at Le Mans way back as far as 1988. Both the road and the vehicles, meanwhile, wear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Direct descendents from the Porsche’s racing activities at Le Mans, they feature a twin-compound build – the outer section made from a ‘high molecular chain’ elastomer to maximise grip in twisty race tracks, the inner section using a more harder elastomer that promises more precise steering feel.
