Output has also been increased to 194 PS and 400 Nm of torque in the case of the E 220 d, which is 24 PS more than the outgoing E 220 CDI. Torque is the same and arrives 200rpm later, so the reduced displacement had some drawbacks.

Third row is large enough for adults; spirited acceleration with any of the three gasoline engines; impressive fuel economy with the diesel engine; quiet cabin with high-end trimmings and features.

Cons

Diesel-powered model feels relatively slow when passing and merging; big price jump from the six-cylinder models to the V8-powered versions.
