Chevy Camaro ZL1 Based GT4.R – Video
The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R will debut this weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge race in St. Petersburg, FL. The GT4.R is campaigned by the Illinois-based Blackdog Speed Shop and driven by Lawson Aschenbach and Tony Gaples. In addition to the Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class, the GT4.R will also be entered in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge’s Grand Sport Class, and its debut in that series will be at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in May.
Chevrolet says the GT4.R is based on the production ZL1 1LE track-day special. In production guise, the ZL1 1LE is gunned by a 650-horsepower, supercharged LT4 engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. But it’s the improved aero along with the track-adjustable suspension that really shows off its racing chops. The hungry, aggressive front is festooned with air deflectors and dive planes to give the car more of the downforce it needs, and in stock form the rear wing affords it 300 pounds of downforce. The production ZL1 1LE even features Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers that give it pitlane-adjustable ride height and camber.
