Over the past half of the century, BMW’s M Motorsport division has played a major role in the company’s overall desirability, especially when it comes to building its most desirable M cars and performance machines.

One of the things that BMW M cars were always noted for was their unique exhaust sounds, which set them apart even from the standard garden verity BMW models they were based on. Now, this video offers us an audible chance to listen to the evolution of these incredible sound machines, from the 1972 3.0 BMW CSL to our current BMW M6 Coupe.Some of our all-time favorites may be missing, but this video is still a true treat for your ears.
