BMW Releases Details Of New M6 GT3 Racing Car

BMW will be replacing the familiar BMW Z4 GT3 with an all-new bigger race car, the BMW M6 GT3. The new monster will “take over as the manufacturer’s figurehead on the GT racing scene, and will do battle for victory and titles in many racing series around the world,” according to the BMW.

Following the press release that they are retiring the BMW Z4 GT3 after the 24 Hours of Spa race, they also shared some technical details for the upcoming BMW M6 racer.

Firstly, it will be priced at a staggering €379,000 or $412,000, and according to BMW it’s far more cost effective to run and maintain compared to the outgoing BMW Z4 GT3.

The actual horsepower of the tuned 4.4-liter V8 fitted with twin turbos was revealed in the announcement and it can be as much as 585 horsepower depending on which class it’s racing in.

The race car has a self-supporting steel chassis, an FIA-approved safety cell as well as a carbon fiber crash structure at the front, plus a CFRP safety element in the back. Total weight is under 1,300 kg.

BMW will be stripping the BMW M6 GT3 of it’s coverings at the Frankfurt motor show, which starts September 15, 2015.
