Porsche Carrera S 991 3 8i Supersprint Race Exhaust Sound – Video
The Supersprint exhaust system for the Porsche 991 Carrera S is composed by “equal length” headers with 3 into 1 merge collectors, metallic HJS sports cats (or decat pipes), side mufflers (available in “road” and “race” versions), rear x-pipe and tail pipes.
Headers and metallic cats are still in the development stage because it wasn’t possible to test the car on the dyno.
As for the “cat-back” system, two versions exist.
The 1st, more traditional version includes a rear x-pipe, two side mufflers and the tailpipes. Fitting this system means to disconnect and tap the pneumatic pipes of the OEM valve control system. The resulting sound is meaty and sporty, but still usable every day if you choose the “road” mufflers, more extreme and aggressive if you pick the “race” mufflers. It’s possible to keep the stock tailpipes or to replace them with the Supersprint ones, which are 90mm in diameter and slash cut to follow the bumper line. They are usually provided in classic, high quality chrome finish, but on request is possible to choose between satin silver, polished black or matt black finishes.
For the 2nd version, fitted with bypass valves on the x-pipe, the target was to differentiate as much as possible loud and quiet modes. Fitting the quieter “road” mufflers the sound will be sporty but comfortable when the valves are closed, very aggressive and extreme when open. The exhaust gas follows a very short and direct route, the sound reminds of the 911 RSR race cars, with burble, pops and even flames!
Picking the “race” mufflers with this setup means to have less difference between modes. Even in “quiet mode” the sound will be deep and throaty.
The valves are to be plugged to the stock pneumatic pipes fitted as stock on the car. The valve management is handled by the ECU, that varies the opening depending on driving mode (normal, sport, sport plus), rpm and throttle opening.
With the “Porsche Sport Exhaust” package, but also available as a standalone part (information available on request), a manual bypass button is fitted on the central dash. This allows to manually control the exhaust mode.
With the valve equipped system is necessary to fit the Supersprint tailpipes.
