6th vs 7th Generation – 2017 BMW 5 Series – F10 vs G30 – Video
The F10 is the sixth generation 5 Series, produced from 2010–present. The platform is based on the F01 7 Series; improvements include a front dual ball joint short-long arm suspension (replacing the MacPherson strut suspensions BMW previously used), and a rear multilink suspension.
The interior marks the return of the centre console being clearly angled towards the driver, another marked change from its immediate predecessor which was noted for its non traditional BMW design. However, opinion is divided, as a reviewer described the F10 as too bland and conservative, compared to the E60 predecessor, as well as having too much of a resemblance to the E90 3-Series.
The seventh generation codenamed G30 was unveiled on 13 October 2016. Improvements over the previous model include weight savings of up to 100 kg and a new design with a drag coefficient of 0.22 Cd. Other improvements include an updated BMW iDrive system that now uses a high-resolution 10.25-inch display, a new head-up display that covers 70% more area as well as selective anti-dazzle high beam headlights with a range of up to 500 metres.
Running under the slogan BUSINESS ATHLETE, the communications campaign is now entering a decisive stage. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is about the excitement of unprecedented connectivity and further enhanced driving dynamics, and has everything it needs to take the business class by storm: it is, quite simply, the BUSINESS ATHLETE. Communications focus on innovation, dynamism, business class and driving pleasure, emphasizing them to varying degrees in different markets around the world.
A key element in the campaign is, of course, actor Scott Eastwood. Scott is a fresh, young testimonial, and his ambition and dynamism are the perfect match for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.
Collaborations with Scott Eastwood will cover not only classic TV advertising but also a range of online formats.
