600PS BMW M5 – Pure Metal Edition

Another day, another limited edition BMW, as the German car manufacturer’s South African division releases the “Pure Metal Edition” M5.

You’d might say that, the world is getting enough special edition BMWs as it is, but the majority of them were actually exclusive to Japan. So, to even things out, BMW South Africa decided to put together – in a very limited run of only 20 units – an M5 dedicated to the African continent.

Mind you, even though it seems like a “normal” M5 with a pretentious name for its silvery-white paint-scheme and a set of individual 20-inch M Double-spoke alloy wheels, it isn’t. Yes, its BMW-Individual treatment – which makes it look like a standard BMW – and “Pure metal Silver Metallic paint may say otherwise, but it also comes with a plaque bearing the “Pure Metal M5” and “1/20 “ inscription, and a surprise under the hood.

 

 

You see, this angry-looking pile of metal it’s actually based on the limited-edition “30 Jahre M5”, which means its 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 develops 592 hp (600PS) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Yes, this car is actually a limited-edition, based on a limited-edition, which is the kind of stunt only BMW could pull. But who cares, as long as it launches you from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and it has a top speed of 305 km/h?

Oh, and BMW also says that the car’s driver and front passenger can settle into the M Sport multifunctional seats – which is to be expected, given we’re talking about an M5 – upholstered in full black-leather Merino Fine grain, with Silverstone contrast stitching – whatever that is.

The car costs R 1,948,000 – which is about $142,856 dollars – but we won’t urge to buy a plane ticket to South Africa, since probably all 20 of them are already sold-out.
