2024 Rivian R1T EV crew cab pickup IIHS Safety Test

Achieving a good rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) revised moderate overlap front test, the 2024 Rivian R1T crew cab pickup has been elevated to TOP SAFETY PICK+ status. To qualify for this top award, vehicles need at least an acceptable or good score in the updated test, whereas a good rating in the initial test suffices for the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK. The R1T initially received the basic award, with results from the enhanced test awaited. The revamped test introduces a rear-seat dummy to enhance backseat safety, where the R1T showed low injury risks to crucial body parts, maintaining proper belt positioning. Vehicles vying for either safety accolade must also have good scores in both the small overlap front and the revised side tests, plus suitable headlights in all versions, and an acceptable or good score in the new, combined daytime and nighttime pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation. The R1T’s crash prevention system received an acceptable rating in this test.
