The upcoming Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé, set for a 2024 release in the United States, marks a significant update in Mercedes’ vehicle lineup. This two-door model expertly blends the nimbleness and dynamic driving experience of the C-Class with the spaciousness and prestige associated with the E-Class. It’s a fresh take on the entry-level performance coupé category. At the heart of this coupe lies a powerful AMG-enhanced M256M 3.0-liter inline-six engine, turbocharged for impressive performance. It delivers 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, with a temporary boost to 443 lb-ft for short bursts. Mercedes estimates that the CLE53 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds, with its top speed capped at 155 mph. Engine improvements include reworked combustion chambers, updated inlet and outlet channels, new piston rings, and an enhanced injection system. The engine also benefits from a larger turbocharger that raises the boost to 22 psi and incorporates an electric auxiliary compressor. Furthermore, it features a second-generation integrated starter generator, integral to the car’s 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Transmission duties are handled by the AMG SpeedShift TCT 9G, directing power efficiently to the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The car is equipped with substantial brakes, featuring 14.6-inch front brakes with four-piston calipers and slightly smaller 14.2-inch rear brakes. Notably, the CLE53 introduces standard rear-axle steering. At lower speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite to the front for better maneuverability, while at higher speeds, they align with the front wheels to enhance stability. The design of the CLE53 is striking, with wider front and rear fenders that broaden its stance. The front sports the signature Panamericana grille and is flanked by LED headlights. The rear end is equally bold, featuring four round tailpipes and two-part LED taillights linked by a dark red strip. Standard wheels are 19 inches, with 20-inch options available. Additional customization is available with the AMG Performance Studio Package, offering enhanced aerodynamics and styling, as well as AMG Night and Carbon Fiber packages. The interior boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a separate 11.9-inch infotainment screen. Standard upholstery includes MB-Tex/microfiber with red stitching, and there are various leather options. An AMG Performance Seat package adds sportier seats with enhanced ventilation.
