1200HP Four-Rotor Mazda Miata (1)

At the highest level of professional drifting, race cars are thrown sideways at speeds topping 200km/h. They are precision instruments engineered for a purpose.

New Zealand drift driver Mad Mike Whiddett and his newest – and arguably craziest – addition to his Mazda factory-backed stable of machinery yet, a Mazda MX-5 named RADBUL, is a fine replica of this.

In this clip at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, Otago, New Zealand, Mad Mike Whiddett takes his custom four-rotor, twin turbo 26B rotary engine and drifts around the challenging and technical track, showing us that he has the skills, the team and the machine to put the car exactly where he wants.

Mad Mike Whiddett Bio:

Coming from a MotoX background, New Zealand-born Mike Whiddett made a major impact in the drift scene when he released his Red Bull branded, specially modified 515bhp ‘MADBUL’ Mazda.

Mike made the switch from competing pro in Freestyle MX to Drifting in 2006. Since then, he has had a string of successful years in Drifting, now fully backed by Red Bull. Mike has competed in two pro spec drift cars, and regards his drifting career as a full time job, which takes him all over the globe.

With a huge following in the NZ drift community, Mike remains a great ambassador for Red Bull. Described as an approachable guy, he always takes the time to talk with as many fans as possible.

As a talented driver he pushes both himself and his car to the limits each and every time he takes to the track. This was most evident during his performance at the Red Bull World Drifting Championships in LA, where Mike made his way into the “Great Eight”.

In 2014, Whiddett was responsible for creating yet another drifting wondercar – the 1000bhp Mazda MX-5. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to see what he does with it…
