0-62 mph world record – 1.779 seconds – Video
University of Stuttgart mechanical students have recorded a new best time in the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration category.
The Green Team Formula Student that where involved managed to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 1.779 seconds, shattering the previous record by 0.006 seconds.
The amazing result was reached with a 136 PS (100 kW) all-wheel drive fully electric vehicle designed specifically for the Formula Student competitions.
The car features four electric motors and a 6.62-kWh battery packs. The total weight stands at 160 kg and the power to weight ratio is 1.6 kg/kW.
If you compare to hypercars, the mighty Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has a power to weight ratio of 2.08 kg/kW, while the Porsche 918 Spyder has 2.5 kg/kW.
The record is not official yet as it has to be confirmed by Guinness World Records in a few weeks.
